Anxiety, fear, and depression are some of the most common and difficult emotions that we experience at points in our lives. Natural responses to overwhelming events. Through counseling and treatment, we are able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and the joy you once had in your life.
Counseling can support you as you move through the stages of life. As women, every age and stage of our life involves excitement and challenge, growth and some road blocks. Counseling can support and guide you as you develop anew.
Counseling can support you as you venture forward.
Many of us experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) is a mental health diagnosis characterized by emotional reactivity, flashbacks, and dreams, etc., which impact daily life. I can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing through EMDR Therapy, Brainspotting, Expressive Arts Therapy and other brain-body practices. Healing Happens!
One response to stressors in our lives is to turn to behaviors that relieve the overwhelm. This works! Alcohol, drugs, food, gambling, shopping, scrolling social media sites all relieve anxiety and stress in the moment. The challenge is these behaviors can become over-learned, compulsive and an additional source of stress. Counseling assists in identifying patterns, developing strategies for change and provide support in the process. EMDR Therapy can be helpful.
EMDR Therapy is a stress and trauma treatment designed to work with brain, body and cognition. Working with memory, sensation and reprocessing in a safe relationship, the client's innate ability to heal is activated. Emotional distress longheld in the body and mind release through bilateral processing. Research supported. Dr. O'Halloran trained in 2002 and is a Certified EMDR Therapist.
Brainspotting is a relational, brain-body therapy. Counselor and client work to identify visual spots to activate subcortical areas of the brain which link to sensation, memory, and cognition. Once linked, the client "goes inside" and through processing, facilitates mind-body healing and the release of ingrained ways of being in the world. Research ongoing in this newer modality.
MBSR uses mindfulness meditation, yoga and other mindfulness practices to learn about and manage our responses to stress in our daily lives. Created as a structured 8-week group. Research supported. MBSR practices can be integrated into individual sessions as well.
Dr. O'Halloran is certified by UCSD Center for Mindfulness and is an advanced yoga teacher (500-hour training).

Theresa is a knowledgeable, compassionate, and caring individual. She has a gift of phrasing questions in a thoughtful and helpful way, which causes individuals to reflect and not feel judged. Another thing that I find so valuable during my time with Theresa is that she is knowledgeable and willing to share her knowledge and resources. In the end, I am a better counselor and professional due to my receiving support from Theresa. (Daniel C.)
I have had the privilege of being under the supervision of Theresa O'Halloran as I work towards my clinical licensure. Theresa is warm, empathetic, flexible, and approachable. I feel very comfortable sharing information with her and asking her questions. Theresa's clinical skills are top-notch, and she has helped me grow as a professional and a clinician. I appreciate that Theresa looks at counseling clients as whole people and tries to approach a case from all angles to best meet clients' needs. I highly recommend Theresa as a clinical supervisor.
